Alexa is a web service from Amazon.com a premier dot com company. Alexa gives ranks for the web sites world wide. The higher rank number the site has ,is lower in rank (lesser traffic) . The lower rank number a site has means the site getting more traffic. checking the rank of a site will help you to find the reputation of it. The combination or Alexa and Google Page rank checking gives you more info about a site before you do a purchase or share information with it.
If a site www.example.de has the Alexa rank 23,345,600 it means it is in the very beginning (less visitors or very new site)comparing to the site www.exampl.ad with rank 3,345,500 .

What you can understand from a site’s Alexa ranking ?
It gives the trafic details of a site ,like what is it’s rank world wide (from teh number of traffic)
It shows you the sites linking with the site and percentage of the users visit to the particular site by country(more information will be given for the sites have higher ranks , almost bellow 100,000)
How you can benefit from the traffic details and how it protects from attack sites etc.. ?
If a site has a rank bellow 1 million ,definitely it has a reputation from the visitors. A Spam or phishing site cannot get into the good books of the Alexa.com. When ever you get Spam emails ,and they refer to some suspicious sites ,if you check their Alexa rank then you will find that either they don have a rank (Appears as “Private”) or have a higher Rank number like 24,234,234. Simply you can identify the sites reputation .
but please note if a site is new or it is designed for a very particular small niche market ,may be has very low number of visitors and higher rank number. Therefore it is not the only one way to check ,but it also helps.
How to check a web site’s traffic rank in Alexa ?
There are two ways
1) Install the Alexa Tool Bar in your browser and always see the page rank of every web site you visit (click below to get the tool bar now )
Get Alexa Tool Bar for your browser(IE/Firefox)
2) Go to Alexa.com and enter the url of the site to check the rank
Google’s Page Rank
Another recognized ranking system given to web sites are from Google ,called page rank.
Google gives the ranking to the sites depends on a mixture of findings like quality content,traffic ,site link in etc..
The Ranking given from 1 – 10 ,the higher number it has the reputation is high.(opposite to Alexa )
I really do two thinks to check the sites authority
1)Checking the Alexa Rank
2)Check the google page rank
Some sites has few millions of Alexa ranking but has 1 or 2 some times more page rank. then the site is a trustworthy ,if Google observers suspicious activity from the site it will not give any ranking .
